ABSTRACT: There are two railway electrification aerial systems, one is formed by wires and contact wires tensioned, called flexible catenary and known widely as catenary, and the other system is formed by an aluminium beam that carries at its bottom the contact wire, this system is called rigid catenary.Each of these systems has its own scope, although its maximum commercial speeds are significantly different (350 km/h for flexible catenary, 120 km/h for rigid catenary).Keywords: catenary, catenary rigid, profile, contact wire, pantograph, tunnel, railway traction.
