ABSTRACTUntil the recent construction of the prey of the Three Throats, in the Yang tsé river, the hydroelectric power station of Itaipú was the biggest one in power. Like always, the repercussions as much in the environment as in the social aspect, they have been of great importance, but taking step to other positive alternatives independently of the most important electrical generation for Brazil and Paraguay. As much the constructive technology as the one of the generation, transformation and control equipment has evolved widely since then, but the problems derived in Itaipú, Assuan and the Three Throats are very different, derivatives of their respective surroundings. However, the time will be keeping awake unexpected consequences at the moment. Key words: Capacity, power station, environment, power.
