At the end of the first quarter of the 20th century, despite the unstable political situation – a dictatorship supported by the Crown –, conflicts abroad – war in Africa – and general technological backwardness, the three Schools of Industrial Engineering had already firmly established themselves in Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, and Bilbao.These corresponded to geographical locations where, at the same time, industrial areas of a certain level were beginning to be created, although each one supported different activities.The first of these was the industrial area of Barcelona, which was the first to be created and the most important in terms of industrial activity.
