ABSTRACTThe technology adoption by the chemical industry requires an adequate analysis of the variables involved in the technology policy of the industry. Some of these variables are: the characteristics of the technology in adoption, the acquisition conditions, the technology adjustment or the influence of the chemical industry context. A supporting tool for this task is the formulation of a systemic model in order to direct the decision making process and, at the same time, to analyze in a systematic manner the relations of the variables involved. The purpose of the present research is to propose and evaluate a Systemic Model of Chemical Technology Adoption answering the complex technological reality of the chemical industries. This work is setting within a methodological framework based on the Action-Research Method and the DESMET methodology bases, through the characteristics analysis by surveys, applied to 4 expert evaluators. As a result, it is the definition of the model dimensions and categories, the establishment of 17 characteristics and 57 sub-characteristics with their respective metrics (there were proposed 125 metrics), proved through the model evaluation by experts looking for contributions and improvements, reaching an average acceptance of all the model characteristics of 96%. Specifically, the model evaluation feature “pertinency” is 99%, the average acceptance level for the “complexity” is 98%, and for the “adjustment” and “precision” features, it was verified that the average acceptance level is 95%, which is higher than the acceptance level of 75% proposed in the model evaluation. Consequently, the model is pertinent, complete, adequate and precise.KEY WORDS: systemic model, technology adoption, chemical industry, methodological framework, chemical technology, selection criteria.
