ABSTRACT: This project represents a new alternative to improve the user resources to acquire practical knowledge, and to implement successfully the process parameterization in the plastic injection molding environment. Fuzzy decision criteria have been employed, as they are used by the real expert in the process design task, in order to develop a Virtual Injection Molding Machine which allows testing the process parameters. A virtual desk, as similar as possible to real Injection units, has been developed. The desk is easily operated by users. The system response relies on a fuzzy events database experimentally generated. The virtual machine produces a virtual part on which a qualitative defect analysis is carried out. New users must introduce a first combination of process parameters, and running further iterations they should reduce or eliminate completely part defects. The present work describes some aspects about the software developed as a result of the project IE06 0525-049 of the UPM.
