ABSTRACT: Assessing the water penetration exposure of building façades is a key task to guarantee the water tightness requirement included in the Spanish Building Technical Code since 2006. Recent studies have analysed the most relevant climate parameters that characterise this exposure at 80 Spanish locations. For this, international standards transposed into the Spanish framework were used. These results allow assessing the performance of the parameters that define the water tightness degree required by the Spanish Code in the building façades at each location. The findings presented here highlight the need to revise the parameters used to establish this degree, with the goal of achieving a higher design performance and improve the allocation of the required façade systems in each case. For this, new exposure maps that can be used for the improvement of the Spanish Code are presented.
