This paper presents a methodology to carryout the accounts in a lean manufacturingenvironment, wich is called lean accounting.There is a need to use a new methodologywhen a company has implemented leanmanufacturing and it is evidenced sincetraditional accounting systems are unable toreflect all the costing improvements whichthe lean manufacturing systems produce. Itis not only that; they do not reflect theimprovements but they also lead todecisions which are contradictory with thelean principles. In lean manufacturingproducts with similar flow are grouped inthe value stream through flexiblemanufacturing cells instead of organisingmanufacturing production throughfunctional departments Many researchersand experts propose the same way tomanage the costs in lean enviroments.Brian Maskell & Bruce Baggaley havedeveloped a tool for this purposel, the ValueStream Costing to help companies incomputing the production cost when theirlean manufacturing methods have reacheda state in an enough mature level.• Key words: Lean Accounting, LeanManufacturing, Cost Management.
