ABSTRACTIntroduction. The different, proprietary or GPU, three dimensional structural generation software from two dimensions medical images, has results which are based on each developer team's particular considerations, i. e., different software applications can show different results while working from the same data source. This sows the seeds of doubts about the reliability of the results, being necessary a non-modified data interpretation.Material and Methods. In order to achieve the correct interpretation of the data contained in medical image techniques, a low level data access has been carried out, comparing the obtained values with their graphic representation and getting, this way, a three dimensional structure which fits the original information without being post-processed.Results.Obtained results made possible to know the accurate three dimensional position of the anatomic landmarks independently of image acquisition stage's intrinsic factors. This way the accurate anatomical reconstruction and simulation of patient's structures is possible.Conclusions. X, Y, Z position of each point, acquisition time, volume of point, absorption coefficient and scale are critical data for a reliable geometric reconstruction.A computer application oriented to be used by engineers should interpret with high reliability values present in DICOM attributes prevailing accuracy over the functionality of the software.KEYWORDS: medical images, three dimensional reconstruction, anatomical simulation, dicom, voxel, Hounsfield units
