The study of the potential demand for freight transport in the construction of a high performance rail corridor is essential to justify the investment required in its construction and commissioning. This research describes the methodology used to quantify the potential freight would lead to the commissioning of a freight corridor, high performance in Extremadura, applying filters intermodal and conventional wagon recommended in the Strategic Plan and adding the effect of the freight railway Sines-Badajoz scheduled for 2019.The research concludes that the number of goods transported through the Extremadura corridor will have two important milestones; one in the year of commissioning and another in the year of entry into operation of the high-performance railway line belonging to the Portuguese corridor Sines-Caia. The 550,000 t have been transported in 2014 would amount to 2.4 Mt with the commissioning Extremadura freight corridor and would reach 3.2 Mt with the entry into operation of mixed Portuguese railway line. Keywords: railway, freight transport, transport potential demand, cross border rail corridor
