On this article is described the experience on the design, calculation and construction of an experimental prototype of a parking canopy with a photovoltaic charger installed on the roof and with capacity for four vehicles. Additionally, the a charging point has been installed. The location selected has been the laboratory of energy of ADIF, in Madrid, and is the result of the collaborative work of AFFIRMA and ANDELSA companies and researches of the University of Jaén.The study include different phases. First has been calculated the solar gain according to the tracking system selected. From the beginning of the project was rejected the possibility of an additional degree of freedom (corresponding with the roof canopy inclination), because the solar gain is very little in comparison with the additional complex mechanical and structural system required. The mechanism that provides the selected movement can be installed on the available space, and a electric linear actuator fixed on columns supplies the necessary force. Finally the structure has been calculated for the selected emplacement. A versatile design has been carried out, so the installation can be projected for any location by the only implementation of minimal adaptations.
