This research examines the application of the model IO-LCA (Life Cycle Analysis based on Input and Output) to evaluate structural design options which have rectangular shapes, five levels high and for residential use. The study focused on the most common structural materials in social housing in central Mexico: concrete, reinforcing steel and timber formwork. The conventional stroke or processes requires data in environments such as the case of Mexico are difficult to obtain. The IO-LCA is an alternative to evaluate a product from the environmental point of view since it only requires data transactions made between economic sectors involved in the product life-cycle management. Although this model is designed for an industrial context such as the United States or Europe, you can get an approximate environmental assessment to conventional or stroke also called by processes. This article discusses the differences in the estimates can be obtained with the IO-LCA model and with reference stroke by processes. the first, a broad or general assessment based on the EIO-LCA method, which is based on the IO-stroke model and the second, a detailed assessment based on LCA: a proposal to use a complementary manner in two phases is presented materials and transportation. The proposal was applied in the evaluation of four structural designs in central Mexico and variations in estimates were obtained with the IO-stroke model that allow him useful in the context of xx.Keywords: EIO-LCA, IO-LCA, LCA.
