The components made of composite and hybrid materials such as composite- titanium laminates are increasing in the aerospace sector. Among the different machining processes, drilling is especially relevant due to the high number of operations that have to be performed and the consequences of the damages that can be originated in the workpiece. Thus, it is essential to understand the particularities of these new materials and advance in the development of new drilling techniques. The objective of this article it to provide a comprehensive review of the key aspects that must be considered when drilling composites and composite-titanium laminates. Emphasis is given to the possible damages in the material surface and to the wear mechanisms of the cutting tool. Moreover, several recommended practices are presented and three advanced techniques are described: orbital drilling, peck drilling and vibration-assisted drilling. Keywords: Drilling, CFRP, stacks, wear, orbital drilling, vibration-assisted drilling
