ABSTRACT This article presents the results of the investigation realized by TECNALIA Innovation Systems aiming to identify and provide adequate solutions and tools to the dificulties faced by any company (with special focus on SMEs) in structuring its technology strategy and turn it into a Technology Plan. As a result of this research, a methodology has been developed for the companies to use it as a guided process, supported by external experts in the areas of activity of the company, process which furthermore allows its natural integration into the culture of innovation of the company. The methodology has been validated with two pilot cases with TECNALIA’s client companies. In the first case, with a company that provides maintenance services in an emerging market and in the second case, with a manufacturing company in a mature market. As a basis for development of the methodology it has been was used an evolution of Technology RoadMapping as a method that allows, in a quick and visual way, to linking technology and market opportunities, and also fosters communication between the different functions of the company (marketing, production, R & D ...). Keywords: Innovation; methodology; technological plan; diversification; road-mapping.
