The technological development of the most recent years has considerably expanded the possibilities for experimental analysis of cutting processes: dynamometers and faster acquisition systems, video and high-speed thermography ... In this work the possibilities of the use of IR thermography in rotating tool processes such as milling are shown. Although the lR thermography may present problems, such as the complexity of the characterization of the measurement chain and the uncertainty estimation, its implementation is very useful.Applications under conditions close to industrial ones are shown for studying the temperature in the workpiece or in the tool itself, both in absolute terms (by knowing the temperature at each time) and relative terms (by knowing the temperature variation when the machining strategy or the specific cutting conditions change).
