The catenary suspension work line and pantograph current sockets with copper sliding surface have already been adopted universally in electric railroads. This is not the case for trams in which the use of ordinary suspension lines is most frequent and the use of trolley or pole outlets is still fairly widespread.Of course, in trams the speeds are much lower, in general, those of the railways and the current intensity that the shots have to capture is also lower than in these, which explains why not always impose the same solutions In both cases. On the other hand, there are many old tram lines in which long-established provisions are preserved, the modification of which would sometimes be costly. However, one may wonder whether it is in any case appropriate to carry out this modification, in particular with regard to the sockets, and we will make some considerations on this point.
