Nowadays healthcare systems are facing profound difficulties that prevent an equitable provision of healthcare services globally. In order to overcome barriers that limit people's access to these services, healthcare institutions worldwide are implementing new developments in Information and communication technologies (ICT). These new technological advances such as the Internet of Things (IoT), pervasive and ubiquitous computing, and cloud computing promise to potentiate the traditional healthcare system, redefining the way healthcare has been delivered for decades. This advances will enable healthcare provision beyond hospitals and care facilities, providing new types of services advertised as smart services. These new services will enable doctors to treat patients remotely, allowing people to do their normal daily routines while receiving appropriate, timely, and high-quality individualized healthcare services.
