Last week, ISO submitted the first standards for "drone operations" for public consultation, so that interested parties can provide their comments by 21 January 2019
It is expected that the standards will be finally approved by 2019 and will address all types of applications of these devices in any situation, terrestrial, underwater, aerial or space.

According to ISO representatives, the aim of these standards will be "to provide confidence in the safety and compliance for the future of this industry, whose dynamism has resulted in a massive expansion of applications and uses of drone technology. It is expected to provide significant assistance to governments in addressing the relevant legislation.
This is the first block of standards out of a total of four that will successively address general specifications, manufacturing quality and Unmanned Traffic Management: safety is the main focus, given public concern about this issue as it coincides with airports and other sensitive locations, notably due to the malicious use of aircraft.
One has to think of the new developments that are taking place every day in this field, such as the transport of goods and passengers, agriculture, energy and maritime installations, etc., which can transform society and facilitate economic and environmentally friendly operations.
