ABSTRACT:
The present article shows a new methodology for the construction of optimization models. This methodology is mainly inspired by Wayne L. Winston's procedure called "7 step model building". For the present case study, through this methodology a mixed integer linear programming model was obtained, which managed to minimize the waiting due to lack of supply of materials that go from the warehouses to the production lines, within an automotive organization that works under the Lean Manufacturing philosophy. With the application of the methodology, it was possible to reduce from 1.6% to 0% the losses due to lack of supply of materials, that is, it was possible to reduce from $ 48,450 to $ 0 the cost due to the waiting of supply of materials, meaning considerable savings for the organization, and that the proposed methodology for the construction of mathematical models of optimization is effective.
