ABSTRACT: This article evidences the capacity of design methodologies for the diagnosis of problems in the field of engineering. We demonstrate its capacity in the framework of a real project in which the problem of water management in small, non-technified villages is studied. With the specific aim of generating a broad knowledge of an environment with a very great human and technical complexity, a design thinking inspired methodological strategy is presented. Through a mixed assessment approach, the proposal demonstrates its empirical validity in terms of effectiveness and efficiency, as well as its value as a catalyst for multidisciplinarity. Keywords: Design Thinking, multidisciplinarity, water management, design methodologies, codesign
